If you’re using your time in isolation to sort out your house, life and your Netflix watch list, why not spring clean your skin too?
If you’re anything like me and have been binge watching The Tiger King, eating family sized bars of dairy milk and drinking like a fish, then chances are your skin is in need of a bit of TLC.
Did you know that the secret to good makeup is good skincare?
Makeup will only sink into skin that is well hydrated and soft. If you have dry patches the makeup will go over this, but will quickly be visible on the dry areas. If your skin is well looked after, the makeup will stay nice and smooth all day.
There’s no time like the present to get a good skin care routine in place. It doesn’t need to be complicated, or expensive.
As an absolute minimum you should cleanse and moisturise your skin. This is the foundation of any skin care regime and you will see an improvement from this alone.
Cleansing removes impurities, pollution and makeup and should be a 2 step process:
STEP 1: Do a pre cleansing using Micellar water to remove general dirt and makeup
Garnier Micellar Water or Bioderma Sensibio Micellar Solution are both good options.
STEP 2: Follow the micellar water with a good cleanser. If not using micellar water, do a double cleanse to get right into pores and ensure all traces of makeup are removed
Moisturiser hydrates, protects and nourishes your skin. Don’t use your body moisturiser on your face as this may be too heavy and/or perfumed. Stick to those specifically designed to be used on the face and avoid the eye area.
There are many moisturisers which are perfect for all skin types but if you have particularly dry or oily skin its best to use a product specifically designed for your skin type.
If you want to fast track your results, there are also a few other things you can incorporate into your routine:
Eye creams – these soothe and hydrate the delicate eye area
Exfoliation – removes dead skin cells and dry skin, leaving skin feeling smoother and brighter
Serum and/or face oil – gives skin further hydration, added elasticity and a more even skin tone. Even if you have oily skin, a face oil can be used
Like everything, it will take a bit of time to start seeing and feeling results. Stick at it, be patient and make it a part of your morning and night routine in the same way as brushing your teeth.
